"He flew with the old man holding the corner of his robes. They flew on and on. There was a huge mountain of bones in the ocean. When they landed, the old man asked, 'Whose bones are these?'. He replied, 'They are your past life bones'. Then his hair stood on end and he understood renunciation and the nature of suffering; nothing is definite; from life to life, birth to birth … there are different bodies you have taken, and numberless times you have left. The fearful ones, the beautiful ones: whatever there is, you have gone through it. By entering the path of wisdom, exalted being is possible, liberated from the oceans of suffering. So that not only subtle distance, but also time, is cause of unknowing."
